Temperature Sensors for LNG Applications

Senmatic temperature sensors can measure temperatures in LNG storage tanks and LNG pipelines.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is stored at a temperature of -162 °C. During storage and LNG transfers, temperature measurement is needed at various locations. If leaked, LNG always poses an explosion risk to the environment, so sensors require reliability and ATEX zone classification.Senmatic MNS temperature sensors
  • Monitoring the temperature of tank insulation helps detect possible temperature changes and potential leaks into the tank's interspace.
  • Monitoring the tank wall temperature during the tank cooling period before the actual LNG filling.
  • Sensors are vibration-resistant mineral-insulated sheath sensors with Pt100 internal element.
  • Measurement range: -200 °C ... +100 °C
  • Mounting parts and necessary enclosures and transmitters are available as accessories.
  • The range also includes marine-approved models for corresponding applications on LNG ships.
  • ATEX zone classification.
Senmatic NL-Cryo multipoint temperature sensorsSensors can be located at various positions inside the tank to measure the average temperature of LNG.
  • For measuring the internal temperature profile of LNG tanks.
  • The sensor can connect up to 20 measurement points, and the total length can be up to 100 m.
  • Measurement range: -200 °C ... +95 °C
  • ATEX zone classification.
